Eric Cantona. Manchester United legend. Possibly, the first cult hero of the Premier League. The ultimate maverick, adored by the Stretford End and the rest of Old Trafford in equal measure.
As part of a new side to The Football Pink, we’ve launched a range of iconic posters covering legends of the game and given that King Eric was one of my first heroes despite being a Luton Town fan, it felt right he went first.
I asked my old ally – old for the length of time we’ve been musing football nostalgia I hasted to add – Pete Spencer to do something that hurt him; penning an ode to one of the finest players to grace his club’s biggest rivals. Pete is a Liverpool fan and there is no doubt that he can see through the rivalry and appreciate Cantona’s unique qualities – qualities that would have graced any of the greatest Liverpool sides let alone Manchester United.
In the mini-magazine we have created for you to devour, Pete reminds us of Cantona’s most iconic moments – the snapshots in time that have built the legend.
And of course, we’d love you to get so nostalgic about Eric Cantona that you feel compelled to add the very special artwork to your collection – hang it wherever feels best to have the great man with his memorable 7 and scowl looking across the room.
Cantona retired young – but his memory on the field of play lives on.
So, ladies and gentlemen, I invite you to download our very first The Football Pink Presents on Eric Cantona.
