Remembering Mark Viduka and his 4 goals against Liverpool

Mark Viduka

A recent article was published in the Daily Mail that provided an update on how Mark Viduka was living his life after retiring from the game we all love.

Indeed, it seems the former Australia international went off the grid for a little while after escaping the spotlight and returning to a small city just north of Zagreb, Croatia, where he has managed to build a quiet life for himself and his family as an owner of a small coffee shop after retiring from the game back in 2013, where he has time to read this miami club casino review.

Or, at least that is what he will hope to still have despite having been tracked down by a journalist and being interviewed in a newspaper that is read by millions all over the world.

Nonetheless, they start speaking together about his former glory days as Viduka had a rather eventful and pretty solid career as a centre-forward, especially when he was able to get a move to England’s top-tier where he would turn out for Leeds United, Middlesborough and a spell at Newcastle United that was unfortunately riddled with injuries.

Viduka fields questions about his career in regards to the struggles that he had certain clubs, including the time where he fell out with Peter Reid and the situation that he found Leeds in when he was with the club, whilst he also spoke about Joey Barton and Alan Shearer and the fact that he had an offer to join Fulham before deciding to retire from Roy Hodgson as he felt that he was “passed it”.

However, they also came across the stunning performance that the former Australian international managed to put in against Liverpool as a Leeds player back in his first season at the Elland Road outfit in the 2000/01 season.

The game stands out as he netted all four of the Whites’ goals in their 4-3 victory in front of their own crowd, in a game that will have sent fans in the stands doolally with jubilation.

Things looked bleak for David O’Leary’s side from the get-go as Sami Hyppia and Christian Ziege put the visitors ahead inside the first 18 minutes, but Viduka would get his first in the 24th minute before netting his second shortly after the second-half restart.

Vladimir Smicer struck for the Reds just after the hour-mark, but the Australian was in no mood to be on the wrong end of a negative result on the day, as he netted two more goals in the space of two minutes (73, 75) as he arguably saved the best till last (all of the goals are available here to view)!

Many football teams would love to have a striker of his ability at their club now, but we will just have to make do and remember Viduka for the player he was at the time.
