Leading the list it’s Erling Haaland. In fact, if you want to wager on the Norwegian wunderkind right now, you won’t even get 2/1 odds. That’s not exactly what we’d call great value, even if he is the prohibitive favourite.
Behind him are three-time golden boot winners Harry Kane (13/2) and Mohammed Salah (15/2). Along with Haaland and Jamie Vardy, these are the only current Premier League players to have won the award.
The odds really start to grow after the top three, which makes sense, considering they have won 7 of the past 8 golden boots. One way to view this is to simply concentrate your attention (and wagers) on these top three players, but we believe there is value and possibility up and down the list, and we’ll make a case for our favourite underdogs in this preview.

Premier League Golden Boot History: Things to Know
The Premier League Golden Boot has been awarded to the top goal scorer in the league every year since the inception of the League itself in 1992. The first winner of the award was Englishman Teddy Sheringham, who scored 22 goals in 41 matches for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Golden Boot was the exclusive domain of English players until the 1998-99 season when the co-winners were United’s Dwight Yorke (from Trinidad and Tobago) and Dutchman Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink for Leeds, along with Michael Owen for Liverpool.
After the initial breakthrough in 1998-99, the international imports quickly began winning nearly every Premier League Golden Boot. In fact, between 2000-2015, players from ten different countries led the Premier League in scoring, and England was not among them.
Harry Kane brought the Golden Boot “back home” in the 2015/16 season when he scored 25 goals in 38 matches for Spurs (I guess he brought it back home in two ways). Since then, Kane has added two more Golden Boots to his trophy case.
This ties him for the second most all-time Premier League Golden Boots with countryman Alan Shearer and Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah. If Kane or Salah can add one more Golden Boot to their total, they will join Thierry Henry as the only men to win the award four times.
The most recent winner of the award, Erling Haaland, is also the Premier League single-season record holder with 36 goals scored in 35 games played. This broke the previous record of 34 goals, shared by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, back when the season was 42 games long.
If Haaland lives up to his position as the heavy favourite and wins the Golden Boot, he will become the ninth player to win the award more than once.

Who Are the Favourites to Win the Premier League Golden Boot?
After careful consideration and many players considered, we’re ready to share our top 3 candidates to win the Golden Boot this season. Let’s have a look.
Erling Haaland – Man City (Odds: 1.98)
So, what will Haaland do once he “adjusts” to the Premier League? While that seems like an absurd thing to write after the season Haaland had, a case could be made that the best is yet to come for the young striker. When you look at other players joining Pep Guardiola’s Man City, it generally takes about a season to become truly acclimated to the way they play.
Also, Erling won the Golden Boot in the Champions League this year, scoring 12 goals in the competition as Man City finally won the biggest trophy in Europe, which clinched their amazing, treble-winning season. In 30 career champions league appearances, Halaand has scored 35 goals! That’s more than a goal per match against the toughest competition in Europe over a pretty decent sample size.
But we aren’t here to consider his career, we’re here to consider his odds of winning the Premier League golden boot. While it would be foolish not to think of Erling as the favourite, there are some obstacles in his way that could prevent him from winning back-to-back PL Golden Boots.
The first is health. While Haaland was relatively healthy this season, he’s missed multiple games in almost every other league season he’s played in. The World Cup break came at the perfect time this year, as Haaland was banged up and likely would have missed a couple of games had the season not been paused.
We also have to consider the fatigue Man City will likely experience next season after completing their historic treble in 2022/23. Just look at what happened to Liverpool this season after they attempted to pull the Quadruple two years ago. The Reds were a shell of themselves this year, riddled with injuries and clearly still recovering from the previous season.
At 10/11 odds, though, there might be better value from a wagering perspective.

Harry Kane – Tottenham (Odds: 7.15)
Harry Kane might have had the most overlooked 30-goal season in the history of the Premier League. After starting slow, he turned it on after the World Cup and provided most of the highlights in an otherwise miserable season for Spurs fans.
With only one year left on his contract, there have been numerous reports linking Kane to a number of teams inside and outside of the Premier League. Obviously, this will have some impact on his ability to win the golden boot (If he transfers to Real Madrid, for example, that would really hurt his chances of winning the Premier League golden boot).
We don’t think Kane will leave England, however. He’s only 47 goals behind Alan Shearer for the most all-time in the Premier League, and that’s surely a title Kane would love to possess.
With such uncertainty over where Kane will be playing, it’s hard to quantify his value. If Kane stays with Tottenham, these odds look just about right to us. Kane might be a great contender for Premier League betting for the golden boot.

Mohammed Salah – Liverpool (Odds: 8.95)
We mentioned the disappointing 22/23 season that Liverpool endured following their amazing if unsuccessful quest for the Quadruple the previous year. The players who had taken Liverpool to such heights paid the price for their effort as the team struggled with injuries all year long.
Salah’s output suffered from the inconsistent lineups being put on the field by Jurgen Klopp. We shouldn’t saddle the manager with all of the blame, though; Salah seemed just a fraction less precise than in previous years, missing several easy (for him) chances. He also missed two penalty shots in the league last year.
Despite all of this, Mo did still score 19 Premier League goals last season, which was fourth most amongst all players. In the last several weeks of the season, as the team finally began to get healthy, we started to see the offence we were expecting, and the Reds charged up the table.
We expect to see a much improved Liverpool in 23/24, and with that should come a much more productive Mo Salah. Of the top three players on our list, we think that Salah is by far the best value, and he has the potential for 30+ Premier League goals.

Dark Horses for the Premier League Top Goalscorer
We decided to move the next two players on the favourites list into our dark horse’s category while keeping all of the players we already had in, just so that no one felt cheated by our preview.
Marcus Rashford – Man United (Odds: 19.60)
Last season was a return to form for Rashford, who matched his career high with 17 Premier League goals scored last season. He led United to Champions League qualification and a third-place finish in the Premier League. Can he take his game up another notch and truly contend for the Golden Boot?
Much of it depends on what United can do to bolster the offence. The rumours about Harry Kane are intriguing, and while Kane might be viewed as a threat to Rashford’s goal-scoring, he’s actually an underrated passer. We could easily picture Rashford streaking forward ahead of Kane, playing a similar role to Heung-min Son in the 21-22 season when Son scored 23 goals and was the co-winner of the Golden Boot along with Mo Salah.

Darwin Nunez – Liverpool (Odds: 20.5)
At the beginning of last season, there were big expectations for the Uruguayan striker. Some even wondered if he would adapt to the Premier League more quickly than Erling Haaland. That may seem silly now, but Nunez is a truly dynamic scorer who can put the ball in the net in a variety of ways.
Liverpool expects to be fighting for the Premier League title this season, and Nunez will have to produce more than last season in order for that to be possible. Darwin should have plenty of opportunities to score when you look at all of the playmakers on the squad. He should put up better numbers this season, though the golden boot would be a massive surprise.

Gabriel Jesus – Arsenal (Odds: 21.5)
After several years as just another cog in the Man City machine, Jesus moved to Arsenal, where it looked as if he would become a greater focus of the offence. He started strong before a World Cup injury kept him out until March.
By the time Jesus returned, the offence had several options to choose from, and the Brazilian once again found himself sharing the goalscoring. After adding Kai Havertz, it looks as if that trend will continue for the Gunners, limiting the odds that any of their players will hog enough of the goals to win the Golden Boot.

Heung-min Son – Tottenham (Odds: 32)
The good news for Spurs fans is that Son won’t be heading to Saudi Arabia and has pledged to play for Tottenham this season. The bad news is that the fate of Harry Kane is still up in the air, which makes it harder to predict the potency of the offence. Son was the beneficiary of many beautiful passes from Kane that he converted to goals, but it isn’t crazy to think that Son could become even more prolific if he didn’t have to share the ball with a 30-goal scorer.
Beyond the roster uncertainty, Tottenham will also be breaking in a new offence, and it remains to be seen how that will affect individual players. The potential is there, and you don’t usually find odds this high for a former winner of the Golden Boot who is still in his prime.

Alexander Isak – Newcastle (Odds: 35)
Isak was arguably the best addition to any Premier League team in the January transfer window. He was a threat from the start for Newcastle and ended the season with 10 goals in 22 games. Isak was limited by injuries for part of the season, reducing his output.
With a full off-season of training and preparation for the rigours of English football, Isak could be even more productive this season. We expect him to be, and we really like his current value.
Evan Furguson – Brighton (Odds: 38)
Furguson is yet another player hoping for better health in the coming season than in the previous one. He was incredibly efficient in the limited minutes he played. While he’s only 18 years old, he showed that he belonged amongst the big boys and might just be starting to tap into his abilities.
Brighton might continue to limit Furguson’s minutes, but he might change their mind on his minutes if he keeps putting the ball in the net like he’s shown he can.
Julian Alverez – Man City (Odds: 42)
What are we doing putting the backup to Erling Haaland on this list? Well, the backup scored nine goals last season, which would have led many teams. Alvarez doesn’t look likely to surpass Haaland on the depth chart, but the two did play together at times last season, and Alverez clearly deserves more minutes.
He also serves as some pretty cheap insurance if Erling were to miss any time with an injury. The Man City machine can put goals up with a variety of lineups, and if Haaland isn’t in there, Alverez is as potent as any of the other superstars at City. If you were thinking of wagering on Haaland, this would be a good hedge to consider.
Callum Wilson – Newcastle (Odds: 42)
If Isak is good value, then Wilson is very good value. Despite losing his starting spot to Isak, Wilson ended the season with more goals, and the two strikers were also effective playing together.
Newcastle will need to score more consistently to remain in the top 4 this season, and that might mean more time on the pitch for Wilson, who has shown a knack for finishing when given the opportunity.

Premier League Golden Boot Long Shots
We think there are some real gems in this group who may be undervalued, especially in relation to many players ahead of them on the list. All of these players have displayed scoring prowess in the past, and with some good fortune, they could find themselves competing for the Golden Boot.
Diogo Jota – Liverpool (Odds: 52)
There are many scoring options available for Liverpool, and Jota might be as good as any of them not named Mo Salah. He will be looking to make up for a lost season last year, and Liverpool should be more potent all around.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – Fulham (Odds: 61)
If Mitrovic can limit his physicality to the opposing players and not the referee, he should remain the main scoring threat on a Fulham team that is on the rise. Mitrovic should be angry after his suspension last season if he can channel that anger – goaltenders beware.
Bryan Mbuembo – Brentford (Odds: 115)
Now we are taking a big jump in the odds, but Mbuembo has proven to be a talented striker even when playing without his partner up front, Ivan Toney. With Toney out for the first half of the season due to his suspension, Mbuembo will have plenty of chances and is likely to be the penalty-taker for the Bees.
Deniz Undav – Brighton (Odds: 155)
This is as deep as we’re willing to go with the long shots. If you look at Undav’s per-minute scoring rate, he profiles as a top scorer. We admit that a lot would have to happen for Undav to win, but that’s why he’s our longest shot!
