Oscar Best Picture Nominations and Odds
Everything Everywhere All At Once -260
Everything Everywhere All At Once has taken the film world by storm with its quirky charm, and leads all other pictures in ‘precursor wins’ by 31. The next film down on that list is the second favorite here, The Banshees of Inisherin.
While Everything Everywhere All At Once is not exactly the Academy’s usual bag, it’s hard to deny the way this film has captured the imagination of filmgoers across the globe. Besides, the Academy has had a notable revamp in how they judge modern films recently, so it may not hit the issues some people think it will.
We wouldn’t encourage a bet at the current slim odds, but we do think this is the most likely winner here. We can’t envision an upset come the 12th of March.
The Banshees Of Inisherin +300
Martin McDonagh’s Irish folk tale about a man who inexplicably stops talking to one of his best friends has had a similar momentum to the favorite coming into the awards season. As aforementioned, it’s second in precursor awards with 10 and even beat Everything Everywhere head-to-head at the Golden Globes.
There is time for the landscape to shift a little and for Banshees to make up some ground on the frontrunner, but it’s difficult to see it sticking the landing, so to speak. We wouldn’t discourage a bet at current odds though if you’re really feeling like it.
Top Gun: Maverick +1200
Look, it wouldn’t be the first time a genuine piece of American military propaganda has won best picture at The Oscars, but can it do it here? All signs point to unlikely.
As good as Top Gun: Maverick turned out to be, it’s not really much of a heavyweight in the class. If the Academy turns its nose up at both Everything Everywhere at Banshees, it feels like the natural landing spot would be The Fabelmans, rather than Top Gun.
However, the Academy does enjoy the type of ‘feel good’ atmosphere that Top Gun Maverick promotes, all militarism aside. So it wouldn’t be too surprising if it managed an upset, and the odds certainly won’t discourage those of you who think it has a chance.
The Fabelmans +1400
The film industry loves a bit of navel-gazing, and it’s certainly something that has been rewarded by The Academy before. That being said, the overall lack of support for this semi-autobiographical Spielberg tale is surprising – and doesn’t bode well for its chances here.
All Quiet On The Western Front +3300
This German-language epic anti-war film might be the opposite of everything Top Gun represents. In a different era, this may have won. Not this time, though.
TÁR +3300
This is the only nominee for Best Picture that’s also nominated for directing, acting, screenplay, editing, and cinematography. Precursor awards be damned, that’s an impressive resume, and certainly worth a shot at +3300.

The Verdict: Everything Everywhere All At Once
Potential Upset: Top Gun Maverick
2023 Oscar Best Director Nominations and Odds
Daniel Kwan And Daniel Scheinert – Everything Everywhere All At Once -160
The Daniels are first-time nominees and have taken the industry by storm with Everything Everywhere. Through the lens of directorial achievement, Everything Everywhere is unique and interesting – and has done enough to deserve this award.
There will be some question marks over their standing in the industry, especially in a category next to legends like Steven Spielberg. But as we mentioned before, this is something the Academy has been trying to move beyond in recent years.
Steven Spielberg – The Fabelmans +135
As we’ve already said, the film industry likes nothing more than a film about film. Who better to provide that option this year than one of the greatest auteurs to ever do it? Spielberg’s name alone carries enough weight to make him worthy of consideration. He shouldn’t be counted out.
Martin McDonagh – The Banshees Of Inisherin +1400
McDonagh has a shot here in the same way Banshees has a shot for the best picture award. He also has a healthy body of work behind him and a reputation and popularity within the industry that The Daniels do not. Watch this space.
Todd Field – Tár +1400
Remember we mentioned in the intro that every winner of this category since 2007 with one exception was also nominated for best cinematography? First of all, congrats for sticking with us and getting your payoff.
Secondly, yes, Todd Field would be the upset we’d consider backing here. You can apply a similar logic to the best picture category, but that doesn’t carry the same neat statistical anomaly.
Ruben Ostlund – Triangle Of Sadness +5000
The Verdict: The Daniels for Everything Everywhere All At Once
Potential Upset: Todd Field for Tár
More Odds & Betting Guides:
Best Actor Nominations and Odds
Brendan Fraser – The Whale -175
Here’s a favorite who’s bucking the current trend for those pesky precursor wins. While Farrell leads with 33, Fraser has only picked up just under half with 17.
Despite that, Fraser’s turn as a morbidly obese man who seeks reconnection with his estranged daughter is just the type of performance the Academy loves. It’s raw. It’s emotional, and it’s also a comeback story for an old Hollywood star.
Austin Butler – Elvis +275
It would be surprising to see Austin Butler take home this award. Although you’ll have the usual talk of Elvis being an Oscar-bait film, Butler is young and has yet to make his mark on the industry.
In fact, at 31 years old, he’s almost 10 years below the average age for the best actor winner. It might be unfair, but the Academy prefers more seasoned thespians when it comes to this category at least.
Colin Farrell – The Banshees Of Inisherin +275
Farrell has the biggest chance of an upset here and leads the way in precursor awards with a solid 33 to his name. The Banshees Of Inisherin has garnered a lot of love during the awards season, and his name certainly carries more weight than Austin Butler.
Will it be enough to upend Brendan Fraser’s emotional performance in The Whale? It’s unlikely, but stranger things have certainly happened.
Paul Mescal – Aftersun +2500
Bill Nighy – Living +4000
The Verdict: Brendan Fraser – The Whale
Potential Upset: Colin Farrell – The Banshees Of Inisherin
Oscars Best Actress Nominations and Odds
Cate Blanchett – TÁR -165
Cate Blanchett is one of those prestigious names that the Academy loves. If you ever needed evidence of that, just look at her two Oscar wins already along with her eight nominations.
TÁR has gained a lot of late momentum in the run-up to the Oscars, and it’s difficult to look past Blanchett’s incredible performance here as the most likely category the film is recognized in.
Michelle Yeoh – Everything Everywhere All At Once +110
Michelle Yeoh is the face of Everything Everywhere All At Once, which automatically puts her in a good position to win this award. She represents a unique alternative to Cate Blanchett, and some people believe may lose out here due to already being spoilt with two past wins.
Yeoh is well-loved in the industry and by film-goers alike, and this is undoubtedly the biggest role of her career next to classics like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). But, it’s possible that Blanchett’s turn as Lydia Tár proves too big to beat out.
Andrea Riseborough – To Leslie +1200
While Yeoh and Blanchett would be expected winners, it would be Andrea Riseborough who’d turn out to be the real upset story. Her striking performance in To Leslie seemed to gain traction out of nowhere, being backed by famous colleagues across the industry.
It was enough to get her a nomination, but will it be enough to get her a win? We think it’s unlikely, but we won’t begrudge you for having a bet.
Ana De Armas – Blonde +2500
Michelle Williams – The Fabelmans +3500
The Verdict: Cate Blanchett for TÁR
Potential Upset: Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie
