2023 NFL Season Overview
Despite being one of the shortest sports calendars of the year, the NFL never fails to disappoint with drama, storylines, and good ol’ fashioned action. The 2023 season has been no different. Below we’ve highlighted some of the best storylines of the year.
The Post Kellen Moore Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are going to look very different this year, as the LA Chargers hired away talented OC Kellen Moore, with Mike McCarthy taking on duties as head playcaller.
Under Moore, the team ranked 11th in yards and fourth in scoring in the previous season, and that’s even with star quarterback Dak Prescott missing five games.
So, what does that mean in simple terms? Well, the pressure is on for the Cowboy’s to transition as painlessly as possible into a similarly good offense.
Don’t forget, personnel changes have hit this squad hard too. No more Ezekiel Elliot or tight end Dalton Schultz. Mr. Consistency Brandin Cooks has joined the WR corps
It remains to be seen whether this shake-up will have a detrimental effect on the Dallas Cowboys who are still looking for their first Super Bowl win since 1996.
Sean Payton’s Broncos
A year of promise for the Denver Broncos turned into a disaster under rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett, who led them to a dismal 5-12 record and rock bottom of the competitive AFC West.
The Denver brass made immediate moves to fire Hackett and bring in one of the NFL’s best coaches in Sean Payton, and everyone’s desperate to see the results.
It’s difficult to know whether star QB Russell Wilson’s best days are behind him, or if last year was just a result of poor coaching and an all-around terrible season for everybody involved.
But what we do know is that Sean Payton is one of the best, especially when it comes to working with talented QBs. Fans will be waiting with bated breath.
49ers QB Controversy
Last year Niners fans were excited. They were walking into a new era with quarterback Trey Lance and the possibilities seemed limitless.
Then, Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury, and it seemed as if they were back with the old familiar face of Jimmy Garrapolo.
He served a 49ers offense faithfully who also added one of the best running backs in the league in the form of Christian McCaffrey. Then, the unthinkable happened.
Jimmy G went down with a broken foot in December, and the Niners were left with only their rookie 7th-round pick Brock Purdy to lead them through the end of the season.
He promptly went the next eight games unbeaten under center for the Niners, and now everybody’s questioning who the true QB1 is in San Francisco.
This is a huge question for the organization going into the new season, and narratives have already began forming on both sides. Will it be Trey Day or Brock’s Rock in the Bay Area this year?
Rodgers Swaps Green for Green
Sorry, but there’s no escaping Aaron Rodgers. As one of the greatest quarterbacks the league has ever seen and long faithful Green Bay Packers servant, his move to NY has caused waves in the sports world.
Not only does it superboost New York Jets re-building process right into the final stages already, but it also leaves Green Bay to finally turn to long-touted successor Jordan Love.
Rodgers had a poor year last season by all accounts. He’ll be looking to prove that was just a blip caused by external organizational difficulties.
However, being the ripe old age of 39 has left many wondering whether his time is up in the league. Not everybody can be Tom Brady, after all.
The Running Back ‘Problem’
Football can be a funny game. Entering a year where the running back position has seemingly never been valued lower – enter Bijan Robinson, one of the most amazing RB prospects the league has seen for years, and maybe ever.
He’ll join up with Atlanta Falcons new-look offense under QB Desmond Ridder, featuring other touted generational talents such as Kyle Pitts and Drake London.
Elsewhere around the league, teams can’t get rid of their running backs quickly enough. The Vikings have cut Dalvin Cook, one of the best runners in the league, and Zeke has finally left the Cowboys for pastures new.
The fact is, teams just don’t want to pay running backs. They see it as a high-risk position that tends to gas out early and are comfortable picking up serviceable runners during late rounds of the draft.
Talented players like Saquon Barkley have been vocal in their opposition to how the position is being treated. Star Colts RB Jonathan Taylor has even requested a trade.
There will be lots of eyes on the running game this year, and who exactly does well and who doesn’t. This has become a battle for not only pride but for livelihood too.
NFL Week 4 Game By Game Analysis
NFL week 4 has a packed schedule with some truly exciting games in the mix. We’re going to give a quick game-by-game review as well as our pick for the spread. Check it out.
Lions (-1.5) at Packers
Analysis: The NFC North is upside down. The Lions are favored against the Packers, although only slightly. A lot relies on how well rookie QB Jordan Love can acclimatize as the starter and fill Aaron Rodgers humongous shoes. As of now people are still skeptical of how well the Detroit Lions will actually be able to do. We think that’s worth taking advantage of.
The Pick: Lions -1.5
>>Bet on the Lions to win at Bovada.
Falcons at Jaguars (-4)
Analysis: The new-look Atlanta Falcons go up against generational QB talent Trevor Lawrence and the Londo-ahem, sorry, the Jacksonville Jaguars. It remains to be seen how sleek and efficient ATL this year with Drake London heading into his sophomore year and equally as generational RB talent Bijan Robinson taking up running back duties. Even still, it’ll have to be a lot to take down Trev and the boys on home turf.
The Pick: Jaguars -4
>>Bet on the Jolly’ Old London Jaguars to win at MyBookie
Steelers (-3.5) at Texans
Analysis: Despite The Steelers expected step up in offensive ferocity this year, we think the smart pick here is a Texans side that will have improved pretty heavily on the defensive side. Don’t be afraid to see CJ Stroud take command in his rookie season sooner rather than later as well.
The Pick: Texans +3.5
>>Bet on Texans to surprise everyone at BetOnline
Broncos (-1.5) at Bears
Analysis: Pre-season wisdom has both of these teams dramatically improving their fortunes this year, one by way of a coaching change and another by an explosive QB who’s finally got a decent cast of wide receivers to throw to. As the line suggests, this is tough to call, but we’ll play it safe with Payton’s Broncos against Justin Fields Chicago Bears.
The Pick: Broncos -1.5
>>Bet on Broncos to buck at BUSR
Commanders at Eagles (-7)
Analysis: The Philadelphia Eagles were extremely dominant last season, and even without knowing how Sam Howell and the Commanders will look in the new Snyder-less generation of Washington, it’s pretty safe to say that Philly is the pick here.
The Pick: Eagles -7
>>Bet on Eagles to win at Sportsbetting.ag
Vikings (-1.5) at Panthers
Analysis: While Vikings are certainly the slim favorites for a reason, the potential for rookie QB Bryce Young to pull out the dub here is way too enticing to pass up. As of now, the best pick is Panthers, without a doubt.
The Pick: Panthers +1.5
>>Bet on Bryce Young to make a splash and get the W at Betanysports
Rams (-1) at Colts
Analysis: Both teams are kinda-sorta in a transitional period here, and the Colts aren’t bad value at +1, especially if you imagine Anthony Richardson to make an instant impact. However, the skeptics in us imagine he’ll still be struggling if even starting at this point, so it’s hard to look beyond a confident victory from Stafford and McVay.
The Pick: Rams -1
>>Bet on Rams to lock the W down at Everygame
Ravens at Browns (-1)
Analysis: Cleveland Browns open up as home favorites here, and we see the logic. Assuming DeShaun Watson gets back to even 75% of his former self before the suspension, he’s got Chubb in the backfield and talented young receiver Elijah Moore joining the ranks alongside the reliable Amari Cooper. However, Lamar Jackson should never be counted out, and with a new look air-raid offense for the Baltimore Ravens this rivalry game could get serious.
The Pick: Ravens +1
>>Bet on Lamar and co to win at BetUS
Dolphins at Bills (-3.5)
Analysis: It’s year 4 Tua up against the centaur known by his human name as Josh Allen, and while Miami electrified with their speedy offense last year, there are a lot of question marks behind the back of Tua’s fitness and ability to compete. Expect a triumphant Buffalo Bills home dub here.
The Pick: Bills -3.5
Buccaneers at Saints (-3.5)
Analysis: ARE THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS LEGIT? The answer to this question probably relies on whether you believe Derek Carr is a good quarterback or not. That question has divided fans of the game for many years, and after finally being freed from the stink of the Raiders, we’re all going to find out together who’s been holding back who. Truth be told – even without the Carr storyline, it’s hard to see anything but a Saints W here.
The Pick: Saints -3.5.
>>Put your faith in the Saints at XBet
Bengals (-4.5) at Titans
Analysis: Bengals beat Titans twice last year and the gap between the teams has only gotten wider. Even with the addition of the elite DeAndre Hopkins it’s tough to back Tennessee under almost any circumstances against Joey Cool and the Bengals.
The Pick: Bengals -4.5
>>Bet on Cool and the Bengals at Bovada
Cardinals at 49ers (-9.5)
Analysis: This is the biggest line of the week and for good reason. There are so many question marks around Arizona right now they may as well rebrand to the Arizona Riddlers. Meanwhile, the Niners remain as dominant as ever. Expect a steamroll.
The Pick: 49ers -9.5
>>Bet on the 49ers at MyBookie
Patriots at Cowboys (-3.5)
Analysis: This line is only going to get bigger in favor of Dallas unless one of two or both of the following scenarios happen. The first is that Dallas capitulates after Kellen Moore’s departure, and turn into a shadow of their former selves. The second is that Bailey Zappe snatches the starting QB role and turns the New England Patriots into a team that’s actually worth watching again. We’re not sure either is on the menu for now, so Cowboys it is.
The Pick: Cowboys -3.5
>>Take the Cowboys at BetOnline
Raiders at Chargers (-4.5)
Analysis: The expectation that Herbert and the Chargers are super-charged under Kellen Moore’s guidance is almost as certain as the fact the Las Vegas Raiders are in for another dud year that will see them make zero significant progress on the field, but do just enough to cheat themselves out of a good NFL draft pick and a shot at Caleb Williams.
The Pick: Chargers -4.5
>>Charge up your Chargers bet at BUSR
Chiefs (-1) at Jets
Analysis: Probably the biggest match-up of the week see’s Aaron Rodgers new Gang Green take on reigning champions Kansas City Chiefs and the one Mr. Patrick Mahomes. This will probably be one of the rare lines you see this season not in favor of the Jets, but we’re still hesitant to take any value from it. Chiefs it is, for now.
The Pick: Chiefs -1
Seahawks at Giants (-1)
Analysis: Last but not least, the Seattle Seahawks take on the New York Giants in a Monday Night Football slobber knocker. Daniel Jones was once the highest-paid QB of all time, don’t you know? Anyway, a lot remains to be seen how Geno’s resurgence continues here, but we kind of like the slim value behind a well-constructed Seahawks team.
The Pick: Seahawks +1

Our Tips for NFL Betting for the Week 4
Whether you’re somewhat of a seasoned pro or you’re taking on NFL betting for the first time, below we’ve given you a brief primer on how to make the most out of your NFL bets, including when and where to make them, and how to maximize value.
Bet Early
Why wait? With the lines already out, it’s the best time to take advantage of any uncertainty and look for some key value before anybody else see’s it.
If you’re the type of person who keeps up with all the training camp news and off-season drama, you’re also the type of person who should be betting early as soon as the lines come out.
You see, the majority of the betting public will only be paying attention to these lines when the season starts, and by the time that’s happened, they will have changed radically – not to mention the actual week of the games.
If you jump on the train now you’ll almost certainly be able to lock value in. Better yet, with one of the best sports betting sites that offer the cash out function – you may even be able to make a profit before a football has even been thrown.
Register at Multiple Sportsbooks
This is all about maximizing your tools and opportunity. Never settle for less; always look for more. Sorry, we’re not trying to sound like a motivational grindset TikTok post, but seriously – don’t sell yourself short.
What we mean in this context is sign-up for as many sportsbooks as you can. There’s no reason to only be registered at one or two. Not when we’ve laid out a recommendation for at least 10 of these bad boys.
Not only does it mean you’ve got access to multiple lines at the click of a button, but it also means you can take advantage of any ongoing promotions or offers that are available.
Make use of your welcome bonuses and pay attention to enhanced odds. You may find that one of the bets you’re looking to place has been selected for a limited time enhanced odds promotion, potentially making your payout and win even more lucrative.
If you’re lucky enough to win, that is.
Stay in the Loop
All of our tips can help you create your own NFL betting systems, but this one is one of the most important ones. This shouldn’t be difficult if you’re a sports fan, but this is a serious point for those of you who are more casual and are looking to become more involved.
Switch on Sports Centre. Read The Athletic. Scroll through Twitter (no, not X – twitter) Check injury reports. Be aware of fantasy projections, which works even better if you already play fantasy football.
The more you know, the more educated your wagers will be. You want to be one step ahead of the crowd and be looking for edges or angles that others haven’t even thought about. You can’t tell the future, so this is the next best thing.
Keep hammering those match reports and pay attention to the storylines going on all year round. Knowledge is power, and power is money. Or something. You get the point.
