One of the biggest games in the English Premier League this season is here as Liverpool face-off against title-chasing Man City at the Etihad Stadium.
The match kicks off at 13:30 Nigeria time on April 1, and in this article, we’ve got the best Liverpool vs. Man City prediction shared by our team of football betting experts, as well as the best Premier League betting sites, like BetOnline, to place your bets.
Man City vs Liverpool Odds
- Man City (4/7)
- Liverpool (9/2)
- Draw (3/1)
Manchester City enter the match as the 4/7 favorites due to their league position, form, and goalscoring exploits of Erling Haaland, while Both Teams to Score is an exciting betting proposition that’s available at 4/6.
And while Liverpool always raise their game against the Citizens, Manchester City will enjoy the home advantage at the Etihad. Both teams will be hoping their squads return injury-free from the recent international break, although it’s not yet clear whether Phil Foden will have recovered from surgery in time.

Liverpool vs Man City Prediction (Man City to Win)
Manchester City know they simply can’t afford any more slip-ups in the Premier League if they’re to catch Arsenal and win a seventh Premier League title. Therefore, it’s highly likely that they’ll turn up for this one on the attack.
And with Liverpool’s defense shaky (to put it mildly), Klopp’s best form of defense will be – as usual – to attack himself. We feel that a goal-fest awaits us at the Etihad Stadium.
That said, Liverpool have actually been okay at the back recently. Barring their 2-5 mauling at home against Real Madrid in the Champions League, they’ve kept a clean sheet in 5 of their last 8 games.
This, however, doesn’t mean the likes of Joe Gomez and co. will be able to stop Erling Haaland in this match. There are also some question marks over Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson, who is hesitant with his feet, and whose recent errors have cost his side a few goals lately.
Our tipsters feel confident Manchester City will score at the Etihad Stadium – but the big question is how many … and how will Liverpool respond? Do they have the firepower to match City’s?
We’re going to say – No. Mohamed Salah is Mohamed Salah, and while he’s looked a bit more at home recently in Liverpool’s ever-changing front three this season, he hasn’t been the same since Mane left last summer.
Liverpool aren’t as impenetrable as they used to be in the Premier League. They also got battered 1-4 by Manchester City in February 2021 and aren’t averse to getting a good pasting away from Anfield.
And while Liverpool somehow managed to shut-out Haaland and co. in October in the Premier League, this was in front of their home crowd. What’s more, they conceded three against Manchester City in December’s cup game.
If Man City are able to feed Haaland – and feed him often – and if Liverpool go gung-ho, we feel sure that Man City will have too much for the away side.
Our top tip is, therefore, for Man City to win and over 3.5 total goals.

Best Bets for Man City v Liverpool
Over 3.5 Total Goals (29/20)
A general trend when Liverpool play Man City is that there’ll be goals. Lots of goals.
Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League in October was a one-off in terms of a match between these two terms being a low-scoring affair. It also came at a time when Liverpool were rocked by an awful start to the season and were trying to grind out results any way possible.
You’d have to go back six games before that 1-0 victory for the last time that a match between Liverpool and Manchester City featured less than 3 goals.
Coupled with the fact that both sides have been firing recently, we predict that an easy bet to take is over 3.5 total goals spread out between the two sides.
There’s also the small matter of the number of players on the pitch capable of scoring, including Erling Haaland, Mo Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Darwin Nunez, and even Trent Alexander-Arnold (set pieces).
Over 3.5 goals for this match should be priced at around 29/20 – we suggest this is the tip of the weekend in the Premier League.

Manchester City To Win Not to Nil (2/1)
We already fancy Manchester City to win this match at 4/7. But if you’re put-off by those short odds and you don’t think it’s worth the risk, an alternative is to bet on Manchester City to win not to nil.
This means they need to win this match – but Liverpool will also need to score.
For example, if Man City win 2-1, 3-2, 3-1, 4-1 etc, you will win your bet.
The bet is priced at around 2/1 by most football betting sites – and we think that represents huge value this season.
Because while Man City are highly capable of rolling this Liverpool team over at the moment, they often leave the backdoor open. They conceded goals against Bournemouth and Arsenal recently (despite winning the match) and even went 0-2 down at home to Spurs (before eventually recovering to win).
We’re not saying Manchester City to win not to nil is an absolute banker – but it’s definitely a steal at 2/1 when you consider the attacking talent Liverpool have in the Premier League, as well as their penchant to raise their game against City. They will attack – and they can for sure score.

Man City over 1.5 Goals in the First Half (16/5)
If you’re looking for a bet that’s available at better odds than 3/1 on the Man City v Liverpool match, Manchester City to score over 1.5 first-half goals looks good to our tipsters – and it’s priced at around 16/5 by most online sportsbooks.
Ordinarily, we’d say that betting on any side to score over 1.5 goals in the first half is a tough task – and a huge risk to bettors.
But this Manchester City team features an extraordinary player in the form of Erling Haaland.
Haaland is in free-scoring form at the moment. He scored an incredible five goals in the Champions League round of 16-second leg v RB Leipzig before the international break and followed it up with a hat-trick against Burnley in the FA Cup.
He also has scored more than 40 goals this season in all competitions.
And while goals have actually been hard to come by for City in the league of late at times, when they’re in the mood, they always score for fun in all competitions. An example of this is their 1-3 victory over league leaders Arsenal in mid-February, while another is their 1-4 pasting of Bournemouth later the same month.
Moreover, Manchester City are always in the mood against Liverpool. We expect them to come flying out of the traps and over 1.5 first-half goals can surely only be stopped by a VAR intervention.
>> Bet on Manchester City over 1.5 first-half goals at 22Bet
Both Teams to Score (4/6)
This one seems a bit of a no-brainer. In 10 of the last 12 meetings between these two sides in all competitions, both teams have scored.
Most of the time, both teams have scored more than 1 goal – especially in the Premier League.
Now that Liverpool’s attack is coming together a bit more in the Premier League (while Manchester City quite literally have goals all over the park), it seems a sure-fire bet that BTTS will come good.
Odds of 4/6 are pretty good, too. That said, we’d sooner add this bet to a double or a treble rather than place it as a single so that you get your money’s worth and don’t need to place a fairly hefty stake.
An alternative option is to bet on Liverpool over 0.5 goals. But since this bet is only available at 1/2, it makes much more sense to back BTTS at 4/6. After all, we can’t see any way on God’s green planet that Man City themselves won’t bag at least one goal.
>> Bet on Both Teams to Score at 1XBet
Goal to be Scored in Both Halves (3/5)
For this bet, you just need either Manchester City or Liverpool to score in the first half … and either team to score in the second half.
It seems like a simple proposition because the only way it can lose is if either half is completely goalless.
And we really cannot see that here.
Yes, Liverpool won 1-0 in the corresponding fixture back in October, with the goal coming in the 76th minute. But that match was something of an anomaly between these two sides, with Liverpool trying to grind out a result after their awful start to the season and Man City doing all they could to break down the reds low-block defense.
As we approach the business end of the season with all to play for, we see a much more entertaining match.
And since we already predict a flurry of over 3.5 goals, we can also see a goal to be scored in both halves.

Erling Haaland to Score Anytime (BetOnline)
If you’re looking to add some small stake bets to your bet slip for a bit of fun, betting on Erling Haaland to score first is, of course, a decent idea. The Norwegian is a goal machine who can’t stop scoring at the moment, and there’s every chance he’ll score first. Indeed, he has scored first on multiple occasions already this season.
However, we’d rather lay more money on the line and back him at shorter football odds to score anytime as opposed to scoring the opening goal against the reds.
If you’re unsure about Haaland anytime, another option is …
Phil Foden to Score Anytime (Bovada)
Pep Guardiola doesn’t always start his English playmaker Phil Foden – but we’re almost certain he’ll feature against Liverpool if he recovers from his recent bout of appendicitis.
He’s in form at the moment, hitting goals in 3 of City’s last 5 matches.
Not just that, but Foden loves to play against Liverpool. He has scored 3 goals in just 5 Premier League matches against them so far, including a sensational goal in February 2021 when City blitzed the Reds with four goals at Anfield.
And had he netted against Liverpool in the reverse fixture back in October, he would have become the 3rd player in history to have scored in three successive attempts at Anfield.
If he starts, we’ll certainly be backing Foden to find the net against Liverpool on April 1. He’ll also be available at better odds than Erling Haaland, which has the added bonus of ensuring you can place a bet with a smaller stake (less risk).

Manchester City vs Liverpool: Game Preview
There’s no doubt that Liverpool have had a hugely underwhelming 2022/2023 Premier League season so far by their own high standards. While they qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, they come into this league match 6th in the table and have recorded 12 wins out of 26 games played so far.
The Premier League title is out of reach this year, but Jurgen Klopp will be confident his men can still nick a top-four spot. Manchester City, on the other hand, are second in the table and chasing down another Premier League title under Pep Guardiola. They have won 19 matches out of 27 played and have amassed 61 points compared to Liverpool’s 42.
That all said, the recent league form of both teams is similar. Liverpool have won 4 of their last 6 matches, including that famous 7-0 win over Man United at Anfield. However, they lost 1-0 away at Bournemouth in their last league match, a result that surprised many.
Man City have, of course, been doing Manchester City things. They trounced Burnley 6-0 in the FA Cup and RB Leipzig 7-0 in the Champions League, which means their last two matches have an incredible aggregate score of 13-0. Both teams, then, are in fine scoring form, which suggests Liverpool v Man City will have plenty of goals.
In terms of their recent head to heads, Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-2 in the Carabao Cup in December but it was Liverpool who triumphed (0-1) in the league at Anfield in October.
Previous to that, Man City haven’t beaten Liverpool in the league since February 2021.

Man City v Liverpool: Game at a Glance
Liverpool Preview
Liverpool are a team in transition. Before the season began, many pundits had them to win a second Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp but it was already clear by October that that wouldn’t happen.
Losing Sadio Mane in the summer has proven to be a much bigger blow than the Liverpool hierarchy imagined, with replacement Darwin Nunez taking longer than expected to find his groove.
Key injuries to their forward line – including Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, the latter of whom is still injured – haven’t helped matters. But what’s perhaps made things worse is that, quite simply, Liverpool have an aging midfield. Captain Jordan Henderson is now 33 and Fabinho seems to be way past his best.
A few weeks ago, we’d have said that Liverpool were in no shape to give Manchester City a game. But an inspired recent run, which included that amazing 7-0 win over Man United, gives hope for Liverpool fans.
What’s more, Mohamed Salah finally seems to be clicking with Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez and the goals are starting to come.
However, Liverpool’s other weakness right now is consistency. Their league form has improved but they were dumped out of two cups – the FA Cup and the Champions League – with barely a fight in the last few weeks.

Manchester City Preview
Manchester City have still got lots to play for this season. They can still win the treble – the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
And if they’re to win the Premier League, beating at Liverpool on April 1 is probably something they absolutely have to do. After all, Pep’s team are 8 points behind Arsenal in the title race, albeit with a game in hand. They can afford no more slip-ups.
It’s something of a surprise that Manchester City are so far behind the league leaders when you consider they added goal machine Erling Haaland to their ranks at the start of the season. The Norwegian hitman had already scored an unprecedented 28 league goals before March even ended but even his goals haven’t been enough to put City at the top of the league just yet.
There aren’t really too many questions over their form, although 4 defeats in 27 matches is a little higher than Pep would have preferred.
What’s more, the coach continues to tinker with his tactics and doesn’t seem able to integrate Jack Grealish and Phil Foden into the same starting XI.
It’s highly likely that Guardiola will once again adopt an attacking formation and attitude as he looks to take the game to the Reds. And with Haaland at his disposal, the question is: Why wouldn’t he?
