TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR HOME 1977-80
Back in the days when your dad thought he was John Travolta or the fourth Bee Gee, Admiral brought out a stylish range of kits to match every footballer’s droopy moustache, sideburn and medallion combo. Tottenham Hotspur were one of those clubs to embrace the new kit fashion of the disco era.
Spurs had suffered the indignity of relegation in May 1977 but fought their way back into the big time at the first attempt the following season.
To celebrate their return to Division One, manager Keith Burkinshaw splashed the cash on recent Argentine World Cup winners Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo Villa; both of whom went on to become ‘Tottingham’ legends thanks to successive FA Cup wins in 1981 and 1982.
Also making his way in the first team at White Hart Lane during the late 70’s was possibly Tottenham’s greatest midfielder – the sublimely talented god-botherer, Glenn Hoddle.
