EVERTON HOME 1986-89

In the week that Everton signed a new 5-year kit deal with Umbro, it seems appropriate to highlight the Umbro-made shirt the Toffees wore when they were champions of England for the ninth – and last time – in 1987.

Howard Kendall was in charge when the First Division title was brought to Goodison Park for the second time in three seasons during a highly successful spell in the mid-80’s; an era which included one FA Cup victory from three successive final appearances and a European Cup Winners Cup triumph.

Blues legends such as Kevin Ratcliffe, Peter Reid, Graeme Sharp, Kevin Sheedy and Trevor Steven pulled on this shiny-checked, NEC-sponsored jersey in a time when Merseyside was the place to be for football.

The 80’s and 90’s were also Umbro’s heyday for kit design as they emerged as one of the world’s leading suppliers – Everton’s design heralding an unprecedented era of success and innovation for the Cheshire-based sportswear company.
