LEICESTER CITY HOME 1979-83

Yet another example of Umbro’s late 70’s/early 80’s wide, stripy collar here with Leicester City’s home shirt worn by the likes of Filbert Street greats Gary Lineker, Alan Smith, Steve Lynex, Kevin MacDonald and Jim Melrose.

The Foxes yo-yo’d between the top two tiers during this period, winning the Second Division title in 1979-80 under Scotsman Jock Wallace and promotion back to the First Division in 1982-83 with Gordon Milne.

The undoubted star of this side was young, jug-eared goalhanger Lineker. The local lad – whose family ran a fruit and veg stall in the city – banged in 95 goals in 194 appearances for his boyhood club before securing an £800,000 move to champions Everton in 1985.

Here, we can see the Foxes thrashing promotion rivals Wolves in 1983.
