The opportunity to regain UFC gold has been unconventional to say the least for Teixeira. Originally scheduled to rematch Jiri Prochazka in December of 2022, Teixeira was left opponentless when Prochazka pulled out and vacated the light heavyweight title.
The UFC opted to remove Teixeira from the fight, and pair Magomed Ankalaev against former champion Jan Blachowicz for the vacant light heavyweight title. The result of the fight was a split draw, and instead of a rematch, the UFC elected to schedule Teixeira against Hill.

Unfortunately, visa issues kept Teixeira from debuting in the UFC sooner than 2012. Despite losing prime years of his career, Teixeira trucked on and lived up to hype – establishing himself as a perennial contender for the past nine years.
While UFC gold seemed bleak, Teixeira finally broke through and defeated Jan Blachowicz to become the UFC light heavyweight champion at 42 years old.
A well rounded fighter, Teixeira has gone from one of the most feared strikers to grapplers over the years. Landing an incredible thirteen takedowns in the last four fights, no one has been able to keep the former champion off them.
As for Jamahal Hill, he has developed into one of the most promising prospects in the light heavyweight division. With three consecutive knockout victories, the last of which coming over a former title challenger in Thiago Santos, Hill is a threat to anyone who stands across from him.
Possessing excellent size to go along with his striking abilities, Hill is a nightmare to deal with on the feet. Landing 6.46 significant strikes per minute, it’s not necessarily the power of Hill you have to worry about. It’s the accumulation of damage.
This fight comes down to if Hill can stay upright long enough to hurt Teixeira. While possible, we aren’t so sure that will be the case.
Hill, sporting a 65% takedown defense, has been taken by lesser grapplers six times on two separate occasions. Needing only one takedown to change the complexion of a fight, we believe the former champ Teixeira reclaims his throne.
