Brief Recap of the ATP Dallas Open 2022
The 2022 Dallas Open was the first time Dallas had held an ATP tour event since 1983. It replaced the New York Open on the ATP Tour.
For many, Dallas is one of tennis’s spiritual homes in America, and it was at Dallas’s Reunion Arena that the 1982 World Championship Tennis finals were held.
At the Dallas Open 2022, there was a lot of buzz around the inaugural event, with a raft of top ATP players participating. Reilly Opelka won the tournament, beating fellow American Jenson Brooksby in straight sets in the Dallas final.
Surprisingly, the top seed and favorite, Taylor Fritz, bowed out to compatriot and seventh seed Marcos Giron in the second round.
Opelka didn’t have an easy route to the final, as he had to see off John Isner, who has as big a serve as Opelka, in the semi-final. The match became famous for having the longest tie-break on record for an ATP match, with both Americans drilling constant aces.
Fast-forward to 2023, and defending Dallas champion Opelka has already skipped the Australian Open due to injury.
At this point, whether we will be seeing him in Dallas is touch and go. John Isner, who won countless titles on hard courts, is expected to figure.
Keys to the ATP Dallas Open 2023
The ATP Dallas Open is one of 10 US ATP tour events. Because there are so few US ATP tour events, it’s expected that – once again – the field will be dominated by American players whose preferred surface are hard courts.
Maxime Cressy, Brandon Nakashima, and Marcos Giron lined up last year and were seeded alongside Taylor Fritz, Reilly Opelka, Dallas resident John Isner and Jenson Brooksby. We, by and large, expect the 2023 Dallas Open to have a similar line-up.
A major addition for Dallas 2023 is Frances Tiafoe, who reached the US Open semi-finals in 2022 and claims to be playing the best tennis of his life.
Other players who have confirmed they will be playing include a resurgent Adrian Mannarino and Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
Taylor Fritz, who is currently ranked 9 in the world, also enters the tournament, and he will therefore be the comfortable favorite in Dallas.
However, despite his advancing years, John Isner is always the man to back on hard courts. His weapon is his often unreturnable first and second serve, and its ferocity hasn’t dwindled over the years. That said, his recent form doesn’t make for good reading, and he exited in the first round against Frenchman Gregoire Barrere in Auckland earlier this month.
The smart money, therefore, could be on US hotshot Brandon Nakashima. His fast game is perfect for hard courts, and in November, he capped off an amazing 2023 by winning the Next Gen ATP finals.

ATP Dallas Open Player Predictions
Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz comes into the tournament as the highest-ranked player and will be the favorite at practically all betting sites.
Fritz collected a couple of ATP titles in 2022, including a stunning Indian Wells victory that kickstarted his surge up the rankings.
Fritz was part of the recently victorious US team that clinched the United Cup in Australia, and we fully expect him to make amends for last year’s poor showing in Dallas.
Reilly Opelka
There was a lot of concern that defending champion Reilly Opelka wouldn’t make it to Dallas after he pulled out of the Australian Open – but so far, so good.
However, having not played an ATP Tour match since August 2022, the big-serving ‘Ace Bot’ will have a lot of ring rust.
We don’t expect him to do any damage in Dallas, which means the smart money might be on an underdog to beat him.
Rooting for Opelka to win? Place your bets at Bovada now.
Frances Tiafoe
It’s a surprise that Tiafoe only has one ATP Tour title to his name – and none since 2018.
The American broke into the top 30 in 2019 and had his best-ever year on the Tour in 2022, culminating with a US semi-final appearance.
Back on home ground for the first time since his amazing run at Flushing Meadows, it would surprise no one if Tiafoe – who will be the second favorite – triumphs in Dallas.
Place your bets for Tiafoe at MyBookie.
John Isner
John Isner is no stranger to titles – he’s amassed 16 of them in total, most of which are coming on American hard courts.
He lives in Dallas, so he’ll have no problem settling into this event.
Isner – who recorded his 14,000th ace at the ASB Classic in January – got to the semi-finals last year. If he serves as well as we know he can, he’ll likely reach at least the semi-finals again this year.
The bookies won’t fancy him to be the outright winner – which means he’ll be a big price. Take advantage while you can.
Banking on Isner to win the Dallas Open? Head to Sportsbetting and place your bet.
Adrian Mannarino
Frenchman Mannarino is a dark horse to land the Dallas title – and we feel strongly that this might be a horse worth backing.
Mannarino had an exceptional second half of the season in 2022 and lifted himself out of the tennis doldrums and back into the top 50. It was a remarkable turnaround for the 34-year-old veteran whose career seemed to be petering out.
If you don’t back Mannarino to win the whole thing, another option is to back him to win 2-0 in his opening match.

Best Bets for the ATP Dallas Open 2023
The ATP Dallas Open consists of 5 rounds – Round 1, Round 2, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final.
Altogether, there will be 28 players competing in the main draw across, with the top four seeds receiving a bye into the second round.
There are ample ways for you to bet – and lots of opportunities to make a profit at Dallas 2023.
Let’s take a look at the best bets you can place:
Once the entrants have been decided, you can bet on the outright winner at top-rated sportsbooks like Bovada. Remember that the outright winner odds won’t be released until a few days before the event begins.
Betting on the outright winner is as simple as betting on who you think will go all the way and clinch the Dallas Open title.
Backing an American makes a lot of sense to us, as the field will be dominated by US hard court specialists like John Isner. Last year, 7 of the top 8 seeds were American, with top seed and favorite Taylor Fritz failing to perform and the second seed Reilly Opelka taking the title.
Generally speaking, backing one of the favorites for an ATP 250 event is always a solid idea due to the smaller player pool (28).
The first round of any ATP 250 event can be super tight in terms of the moneyline odds because the top four seeds get a bye into the second round.
This means there’ll be a fairly Even Stevens field with players of a similar level competing against each other. Last year, for example, saw Feliciano Lopez square off against Jordan Thompson in the first round and Liam Broady versus Peter Gojowczyk. These were close matches where the odds were concerned, with little to choose from.
We suggest waiting until the second round of the Dallas Open when the draw will open up a bit more.
You might be able to spot an overpriced underdog, which will allow you to bet on an upset and take home a profit.
For instance, Marcos Giron overcame the heavy favorite Taylor Fritz in the second round. Anyone who backed this would have made big gains.
Game handicap betting in tennis is when you bet on a player to win by X number of games.
For example, at the ATP Dallas Open 2022, Jenson Brooksby beat Jordan Thompson 6-3, 6-0. This means he won by 9 clear games. As such, if you’d have bet on Brooksby (-8.5), you’d have made a big profit.
Game handicap betting is useful when you’re sure the favorite will win – but you’re less sure about the short moneyline odds. Therefore, you can bet on him to win by a certain margin in terms of games.
Typically, a game handicap for an ATP 250 match like the Dallas Open might be set at around (-2.5) by bookmakers.
You can bet on the game handicap pre-match, as well as in-play.
A popular bet at the ATP Dallas Open is betting on the correct set score. Because this isn’t a Grand Slam, there can be only three sets at the most – which makes things a bit easier when it comes to predicting the correct set score.
For example, your choices will be between Player A 2-0 or 2-1 or Player B 2-0 or 2-1.
Set betting can work extremely well if you feel a player is going to romp home with an easy 2-0 victory. It can also work in your favor if you think the underdog will take a set off the favorite.
Another solid idea is to group a few correct set score bets into the same selection to boost your profits while keeping your stake fairly low.
Think a player is going to break serve? You can bet on this during the ATP Dallas Open with in-play betting.
In-play bets (live bets) are when you bet on a match at the ATP Dallas Open that’s already started.
Live tennis betting can be both thrilling and risky, and it’s important that you stay in control of your bankroll at all times.
That said, live tennis betting can be a lot of fun and a great way to make a profit during the Dallas Open.
Possible bets you can explore when betting live include the correct game score and correct set score. You can also find prop bets at sportsbooks like Bovada, such as whether the current service game will go to the deuce, or whether there’ll be a tie-break in the current set.
