In 2019, English teams dominated in Europe. Both Tottenham and Liverpool made it to the Champions League’s big game. Both teams made unforgettable comebacks to make it to the final, which made it even more heart-breaking for Tottenham when they missed out on the title. The Europa League final was also a fully English affair as well. Chelsea managed a comfortable 4-1 win over Arsenal to claim the other big trophy in Europe in 2019.

In 2020, it was a completely different story. Not a single team in either the Champions League final or the Europa League final came from the Premier League. With that in mind, how likely is it that an English team will make it to the final of this year’s competition? Here’s a look at the three English teams that remain in the competition after Manchester United was knocked out, and their chances of making it to the final.

Manchester City

In the group stages, Manchester City was one of the most dominant teams by far. They were unbeaten in all six games, winning five and drawing just one. If you’re looking at betting on the Champions League with Unibet, they’re currently second-favourites to win the title. They’re just behind Bayern Munich, who topped their table with the exact amount of points as Manchester City. So what’s the difference between the two sides? Well, Bayern Munich are currently sitting at the top of their country’s league.

Meanwhile Manchester City are much lower down in the Premier League. If the positioning of the table stayed the same as it currently is at the end of the season, Manchester City wouldn’t even qualify for either of the European competitions next season. As long as they keep performing like they do in Europe and not in the league, they could still be within a good chance.

Liverpool

Liverpool also had a strong performance in the group stages of the Champions League. The only problem is just like in the league, and they currently have random spells of poor performances in games. They can be dominating in competitions for weeks on end, and then throw away a silly game against a lower side the week after. For example, a crazy 5 minutes in their game against Atalanta saw them concede two goals and lose their only game of the group stages. As long as they can prevent another game like this, they still have a good chance of winning the league.

Chelsea

Out of all three English teams remaining, Chelsea are probably the outsiders right now. They may have won their group, but in all honesty Group E was perhaps one of the easiest groups out of the whole competition. FK Krasnodar only won one game, and Rennes only managed to secure one point from the six games. Although they breezed through the first stage, they have the experience, and the talent has to get much further in this competition.
