College Football Week 4 Spread Analysis & Match Up Overview
Betting odds are available week by week, and this slate has some great games and spreads you’ll want to consider when placing your bets. Here is a breakdown of some of the best games for Week 4.
Colorado Buffaloes at Oregon Ducks (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Oregon -8
Analysis: The Colorado Buffaloes have quickly become America’s Sweetheart as the Cinderella Story of the season. Following a 1-11 outing in 2022, the team has taken the nation by storm, knocking off last season’s runner-up in TCU with a dominant offensive outing.
Colorado isn’t perfect, they’ve shown their flaws and still need to shore things up defensively, but they enter Saturday’s game 3-0 behind their stars QB Shedeur Sanders and WR/CB Travis Hunter with a huge task in Oregon to continue their path to perfection, can they pull it off?
Oregon also comes into this game undefeated and looks to be firing on all cylinders. The offense is capable of matching score for score behind QB Bo Nix, RB Bucky Irving, and WR Troy Franklin. However, the Ducks also have a strong defense to bring the balance required to put themselves ahead in big games like this one should be.
Writer’s Pick: Oregon -8
Colorado has proved to the country that they’re much better than the expectations placed on them, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be able to hold up all season. Oregon seems to have one of the more complete rosters in the country, and the defensive force to slow down the Buffaloes to not only win, but cover in the process.

Ohio State Buckeyes at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Ohio State -7
Analysis: Ohio State entered the season with high expectations but things have simmered a bit with the offense not producing to expectations to this point. QB Kyle McCord has been serviceable, but there is still a lot left to be desired. However, with the offensive pieces they have with WRs Marvin Harrison Jr and Emeka Egbuka plus their RB tandem of Treyveon Henderson and Miyan Williams, the scoring seems like a when and not an if.
On the shoulders of QB Sam Hartman, the Fighting Irish come into this contest with plenty of excitement and hype surrounding their strong start to the season. The Fighting Irish have shown a nice amount of team cohesion that should hold up in big time contests like this one, but Ohio State will be a test bigger than any other they’ve faced to this point in the season. Will the luck of the Irish continue?
Writer’s Pick: Ohio State -7
The Buckeyes have been in this situation before where things start a little slow with a new quarterback, but that doesn’t last. Notre Dame looks stronger and more cohesive, but expect the Buckeyes to prevail in this one and escape with the victory. So, bet on Ohio State on one of our top picks!

Iowa Hawkeyes at Penn State Nittany Lions (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Penn State -4.5
Analysis: After a 2022 season with abysmal offensive production, the Hawkeyes have seemed to find a bit of a spark behind Michigan state transfer QB Cade McNamara. As a result, they enter this one 3-0 with a chance to pull off a big victory and in a great spot to contend for the Big Ten West Division. The offense will need to keep up with the Nittany Lions attack in order to pull it off, but McNamara’s experience plays to their favor in this one.
For the Nittany Lions, their identity lies on the offensive line where they have very strong protection to help give time in the passing game and open up lanes on the ground. Penn State enters this one undefeated as well, following their victory over Illinois. QB Drew Allar is still inexperienced, but if he can keep rolling against this Hawkeyes stout defense, then Penn State should be able to win this one.
Writer’s Pick: Iowa +4.5
The Hawkeyes are a competitive team, and they often will keep games close. Penn State looks good to start the season, but Iowa should be able to limit the Nittany Lions enough to keep this game close, and cover the spread, take them and the points in this one.

Ole Miss Rebels at Alabama Crimson Tide (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Alabama -6.5
Analysis: Ole Miss made splashes this offseason with the addition of QBs Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard through the transfer portal. However, incumbent starter Jaxson Dart held onto the job and has looked strong to start the season. Ole Miss is led by RB Quinshon Judkins on offense, and they’ll need them to shine in this one to pull off the victory over the Crimson Tide.
Alabama has had their own much followed QB controversy, but Jalen Milroe has seemed to solidify his position as starter. The Crimson Tide once was a powerhouse across college football, but to this point in the season, they haven’t come across as dominant as they used to be. That doesn’t mean they aren’t plenty capable of handling business in these big time contests, so can the Crimson Tide continue to have their established success against Ole Miss?
Writer’s Pick: Alabama -6.5
Lane Kiffin is 0-3 against Nick Saban during his time at Alabama despite having a few close calls. The Rebels have continued to take some steps in the right direction over the years, but ultimately it’s not a great idea to bet against Saban until further notice. Roll with the Tide and the points here.

Florida State Seminoles at Clemson Tigers (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Florida State -2.5
Analysis: Florida State is one of the hottest teams in the country after a big time season opening victory against LSU and continued success in their next two match ups against Southern Miss and Boston College.
The Seminoles have a high-powered offensive attack behind QB Jordan Travis, but the defense is also extremely strong, highlighted by star DE Jared Verse. The Seminoles now come into what could be their tallest task all season, but the season opening victory could play to their favor in this one.
For the Clemson Tigers, they were hit with a big season-opening loss against Duke, but have gotten back on track to win their past two games Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic. Now though, they go against a scary Florida State squad.
The big player of focus in this one will be CB Nate Wiggins as he will have to handle one of WR Keon Coleman or Johnny Wilson each play, and that will be no easy task. The Tigers have one of the strongest defenses in the country, this one is sure to be a grudge match.
Writer’s Pick: Florida State -2.5
This is no doubt going to be the game with the biggest national spotlight, and there’s a good reason for it. Both teams will compete in this game with a lot at stake fand a ton of history surrounding both programs.
Based off what we’ve seen from these two programs, Florida State seems to offer the more dominant offensive attack, while Clemson’s may continue to struggle here in a big time matchup. If that continues, the Seminoles should be able to score their second big-time victory of the season.

Arkansas Razorbacks at LSU Tigers (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: LSU -4.5
Analysis: Arkansas has one of the most dominant backfield tandems with QB KJ Jefferson and RB Raheim Sanders offering size to scare opponents at the SEC level, and it worked to their favor starting the season 3-0. The offense will be facing their biggest challenge here against LSU, but the Razorbacks offensive line should help set them up for an opportunity to produce in this one and potentially pull off the upset.
For LSU, the expectations were sky-high to start the year, but they fell flat on their face in the season opener against Florida State. They’ve gotten back on track with victories over Grambling State and Mississippi State, but now against Arkansas they’ll have to show much more defensive discipline or they’ll drop their second game of the season.
LSU has looked to have taken a step forward, and they had a similar path last season, so can they repeat that same success?
Writer’s Pick: LSU -4.5
With the ground attack that Arkansas brings to the table, this game is going to be tough. However, LSU has the front seven capable to limit the Arkansas ground attack, and the Razorbacks don’t have the passing game to completely open things up. LSU hasn’t started as strong as expected, but they should show some good signs of life in this as they start to get back on track.

North Carolina Tar Heels at Pittsburgh Panthers (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: North Carolina -6.5
Analysis: QB Drake Maye has been phenomenal up to this point in the season, and the Tar Heels will continue to live and die by his play. With WR Nate McCollum back to help add to the passing attack, the Tar Heels are one of the strongest teams in the ACC and have even looked to be well-balanced through the rest of their roster. This game against the Panthers will be a great in-conference test.
For the Pittsburgh Panthers, they’ve shown some nice promise up to this point in the season and enter this one unbeaten. The Panthers defense is one of the strongest units in the country, and they’ll match up well against this high-powered Tar Heels attack. Stopping them is near impossible, but if they can slow them down, then they could escape with a big time victory.
Writer’s Pick: Pittsburgh +6.5
The Tar Heels likely get away from this one victorious, but Pat Narduzzi is a coach who constantly fields a competitive team. Expect the Panthers to bring some pressure onto Drake Maye and slow down the North Carolina offensive attack. That should do enough for them to cover this spread.

Memphis Tigers at Missouri Tigers (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Missouri -6.5
Analysis: The Memphis Tigers have started the season hot with a dynamic ground attack duo between RBs Blake Watson and Sutton Smith. The Tigers have used their offensive ability to clear out the way to a 3-0 season but now hit the road to face off with an impressive SEC Missouri program. The Tigers will need to continue to produce on the ground in order to pull this one out, but with what they’ve shown so far, they’re certainly capable.
For Missouri, they also come into this game with an impressive start after notching a nice upset over Kansas State last weekend. While Memphis may not have the same national attention, this will still be a tough outing for them. The Tigers offense is centered around RB Cody Shrader and WR Luther Burden III, of the Tigers can get them the football in space, then they should be able to handle business in this one.
Writer’s Pick: Missouri -6.5
Missouri will have to slow down the Memphis rushing attack, but they have an impressive defensive unit that gives them the advantage in this one. On the offensive side of things is what should open this one up; if the Tigers can produce through the air, then they should be able to run away with this one and cover the spread on top of it.

UCLA Bruins at Utah Utes (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Utah -4.5
Analysis: While a lot of attention will be paid to Oregon-Colorado for Pac 12 games this week, this UCLA-Utah game will also be worth paying attention to. For UCLA, the big story of their season is Freshman QB Dante Moore, who has shown strong signs as the season has kicked off. Now as they enter PAC 12 play, they get the reigning conference champions. This is a tall task for the Bruins, but Head Coach Chip Kelly is plenty capable of handling the pressure.
For the Utes, they’ve notched two Power 5 victories to kick off the season, and they’re feeling good as a result. QB Cam Rising was held out early in the season to heal up, but now that he’s back, the Utes offense should continue to progress as the season continues. Assuming Utah can continue to succeed as they have on the defensive side of the ball, they should be in a good position to win their conference opener.
Writer’s Pick: Utah -4.5
Utah entered this season a bit underestimated due to the questions surrounding QB Cam Rising, but the team proved plenty capable of handling business while he continues his recovery. Now that he’s back and near 100%, the Utes should be able to keep rolling, and that includes covering here against the Bruins.

Texas Longhorns at Baylor Bears (Sept. 23rd)
Spread: Texas -7
Analysis: The expectations surrounding the Longhorns are sky high for them to win the Big 12, and they’ll enter conference play going on the road here to face off with the Baylor Bears. The Longhorns identity is their passing attack with star wideouts Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell. The Longhorns have one of the more complete rosters in the country, but last season things went sour after they went on the road in conference play; they need to hold strong in this one.
Speaking of sour, the Bears are off to a rough start to the season, down to 1-2 to start the year and a tough draw to open Big 12 play. Head Coach Dave Aranda is one of the best defensive minds in the country, so bouncing back isn’t off the table. The clock is ticking, though, as a 1-3 start could easily snowball into a bad season.
Writer’s Pick: Texas -7
Baylor looked better last week compared to their 2 week stumble out of the gates, but there are way too many question marks surrounding this squad right now. The Longhorns have the overall roster talent that should keep them clean from this one getting too close, but it won’t be easy in Waco.

Best College Football Betting Strategies for Week 4 of the 2023 – 2024 Season
The lines are ready, the games have been reviewed, and you now have your account set up. However, you need to go in with a gameplan. While you can do as you please with your betting, the best chance to succeed at the books is by going in with a strong strategy.
Here are some tips and methods to help give yourself a leg up on the sportsbooks this week.
Emphasis On The Trenches
There are a lot of aspects to consider in every match up, but one of the most important places for teams to win games is on the line of scrimmage. It may be hard to track blocking play and defensive line work without stats but look for seniority and other observations from reporters and other sources to get your information to evaluate which team is better suited to control the game on the inside. It goes a long way on the scoreboard without much attention.
Create An Account With Multiple Sports Books
There are plenty of sportsbooks out there, so looking to find the best odds on each bet you make is smart. By setting up accounts with numerous books, you can cross-reference odds to find the best returns. On top of that, you’ll generally get a signup offer that increases the amount of college football betting funds you’ll have in your account. It’s a no-loss situation!
Take Advantage of Promotional Offers
Sportsbooks love to offer bonuses and boosts on odds in order to ensure they keep their bettors coming back.
You don’t have to take advantage of each promotion, but it’s worth checking them out when you can in order to potentially find some bets that you like. Each week of the football season, there are generally some great offers to increase your winnings should your bet succeed.
Keep these tips in mind for the college football championship, too!
