Undefeated at the time of this writing with an 8-0 record, the Michigan Wolverines have also been ranked second overall behind Georgia since the season began. Here, they face a Penn State team ranked 10th and eager to disrupt the Big Ten Championship standings.

Michigan is good. Really good. Not only is their lights-out defense darn-near impossible to move the ball on, but they’ve also got this guy named J.J. McCarthy at quarterback who is the current frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy with 1799 yards passing and 18 touchdowns.

The Nittany Lions aren’t too shabby at the QB position either, with Drew Allar at the helm. He’s one of the best in the nation, throwing for 1655 yards through the air with 16 touchdown passes against only one interception. Those are awesome numbers.

So, how do Michigan and Penn State measure up offensively? The Wolverines currently tout the nation’s sixth-best scoring offenses with 40.6 points per game, while the Nittany Lions are tied for tenth at 38.9 points a contest.

Here’s where it gets fun. Michigan and Penn State are ranked one and two in total scoring defense. Now, the two best defenses in the country collide in what could determine who will be playing in the Big Ten Championship, most likely against Ohio State.

For the Lions, it’s been a strong season with the exception of their lone loss in Week 8 to Ohio State, a game that Penn State kept close, still losing 20-12 on the road. The Wolverines haven’t lost a game all season and could be favored even more by the time this game begins.

Which team is favored with the given odds for this game with enormous playoff implications?

Writer’s Pick: Michigan -7.0

Truth be told, the Wolverines have everyone confident that they’ll be one of the last two teams standing, with many experts predicting they’ll go up against Georgia for the National Championship.

Michigan has to get through Penn State first, the toughest team they’ve played all year. After all, the highest-ranked team the Wolverines have played thus far is Rutgers at 39th overall. While the Nittany Lions will present a lot of problems, history is on the Wolverines’ side here of late.

The last 10 games in this series tell us a lot about how this could play out with Michigan going 6-4 straight up but 7-3 ATS. In four games in Happy Valley since 2015, the Wolverines have gone 3-1 ATS. That’s impressive, considering there have been some great Penn State teams.

Here, with a game that has Big Ten Championship repercussions, the Wolverines are going to keep doing what they’ve been doing all year, and that’s punishing opposing offenses with their defense and picking apart opposing defenses with their offense.

It will be far more of a struggle against Penn State, but Jim Harbaugh will figure out the Nittany Lions enough to win by a touchdown or more. Take the Wolverines here, as their claim as the best team in college football is certainly in the discussion.

USC (+13; -110) vs. Oregon (-13; -110) O/U: 69.5

During the first few weeks this season, both of these programs were in the Top 10 and looked like they’d meet for the Pac-12 Championship. Time changes things, of course, and now Oregon remains in the hunt while USC is on the outside looking in.

The Ducks have one blemish on their 8-1 record at the time of this writing, and that’s a last-second defeat at the hands of fifth-ranked Washington on the road. With the Trojans, there have been a few bruises, including consecutive losses to Notre Dame and Utah.

Superstar QB Caleb Williams has done everything humanly possible to keep USC afloat in the College Football Playoffs, but the defense isn’t helping. Oregon, on the other hand, has a defense that shows up and a QB in Bo Nix that is nearly as good as Williams.

Both of these offenses are outstanding, although the Ducks have proven over the last few weeks that they’re a cut above the Trojans in that department.

Writer’s Pick: Over 69.5, Oregon -7

We love this game at 69.5 points. Remember, Oregon scored 81 points in their opening game.

But let’s look at that 69.5 points, and you’ll see why we like the over. USC is second in the nation in scoring offense with 45.9 points a game, while Oregon is right behind them at third overall with 45.5 points. That’s 91.4 points combined per contest in 2023. 69.5 points is too low.

The over has gone 6-4 in the last 10 games these programs have played against each other, and it’s also 3-0 in Eugene, where the Ducks play at home. By the way, in the last seven games in this series, five have combined for more than 69 points. Again, 69.5 is too low.

Looking back over the last 10 games in this series leans Oregon’s way as they’ve gone 7-3 straight up and ATS. USC has fared terribly against the odds in their last 10 games in general, going a pitiful 2-8 ATS.

That they’re favored by two touchdowns in this game says a lot about Oregon and speaks volumes about how much USC has fallen in recent weeks. However, the Ducks are 3-1 ATS at home versus the Trojans since 2007, although this is the largest spread in more than 13 years.

As large as it may seem, USC’s defense hasn’t done well, and Oregon’s offense is insanely good. Their defense can give up a lot of points, but they get stops when it matters. Take Oregon by 13 here, as the Trojans’ defense will struggle against arguably the best offense in the country.

Ole Miss (OFF) vs. Georgia (OFF)

Perhaps this is the biggest game of the week? The only reason this matchup isn’t quite as high as the Michigan versus Penn State game is because Alabama has the edge over Ole Miss in the SEC standings, although upsetting Georgia on the road would set the conference on fire.

The Georgia Bulldogs keep on rolling in defense of their title two times over as they look to win three consecutive National Championships. No college football program has won three titles in a row since the Minnesota Gophers a long time ago, 1934-1936, to be exact.

Georgia has a legitimate chance to be the first to do it this season, as they’ve only had a couple of close calls, but no one has been able to slay the beast of the SEC. Enter Ole Miss, the 11th overall team in the nation at the time of this writing.

Ole Miss touts the 10th-best offense in the nation at 38.9 points a contest, but now they have to face the best team in the land in Georgia, who average 40.5 points a game. In total offense, the Rebels are 12th overall, but the Bulldogs are second in the country.

The gap gets far wider on defense, where Georgia is eighth in total defense and seventh in scoring defense compared to Ole Miss at 50th and 41st, respectively.

As the SEC contenders clash in Week 11, where does this game have the best value?

Writer’s Pick: Georgia

Take Georgia until the wheels fall off. They’re on a mission. Even if they stumbled in a couple of games all is well in Athens, and will be fine in Week 11 against a daunting but beatable Ole Miss team.

While these are both SEC teams, they’ve only played five times since 2006, with the Bulldogs going 3-2 ATS over that span. On that note, they haven’t even clashed since 2016, so there aren’t a lot of trends to ride in this series.

However, one thing to look at is that Georgia is 2-0 ATS at home in this series. Ole Miss has been great ATS this season, going 6-2 over their first eight games, whereas Georgia hasn’t impressed on that front, going 3-5 ATS in 2023.

For this game, Ole Miss might get its offense going, but Georgia can counter easily, it has the defense to make stops. If the Bulldogs are laying anything less than 10 points in this game, grab it immediately. Ole Miss is good, but Georgia is a force to be reckoned with.

Tennessee vs. Missouri (OFF)

Tennessee had Alabama on the ropes, dominating the first half in what looked like an upset in Tuscaloosa. But then the second half happened, and they lost 20-14. The Volunteers are still ranked 19th at the time of this writing and have a big game in Columbia, Missouri.

At the time of this writing, the surprisingly good Missouri Tigers are 7-1, and that’s in the same SEC East with Georgia.

What’s great about this matchup is how equal it is. Tennessee is 28th in total offense while Missouri is 30th, while the Volunteers are 43rd in points per game compared to the Tigers at 27th.

Tennesse has a bit of an edge on the defensive side of the ball, where they’re 30th in scoring defense and 26th in total defense compared to Missouri at 52nd and 37th, respectively.

Writer’s Pick: Tennessee

Missouri will be the hot pick here because they’re at home and will be coming off an expected loss against Georgia in Week 10. Regardless, they could overlook this game against a tough Tennessee squad that was beating Alabama for 30 minutes.

The numbers don’t lie here either, as the Vols have gone 4-0 ATS over the last four games in this series, including 3-1 in the last four games at Missouri. We also like Tennessee here because they are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

The last time Missouri was at home against a ranked opponent was back in Week 7 when they lost 49-39 to LSU. We think a similar thing happens here. Although Missouri may not lose, they just won’t cover the spread against Tennessee, who could win this straight up.

Utah vs. Washington (OFF)

Last but not least is another Pac-12 gem, just as big as USC versus Oregon but not quite as popular with bettors. This game, however, will have huge reverberations for Washington if Utah is able to pull the upset.

Washington is ranked fifth in the country at the time of this writing and itching to get into those final four spots for a shot at the College Football Playoff. It won’t be easy against a Utah team that’s 18th in the country and finds a way to win despite losing their starting QB for the season.

Utah is ranked 18th in total defense and will make life difficult for Washington QB Michael Penix and the Huskies’ fifth-best offense in the country. The Utes are also 18th in scoring defense, but can they stop Washington’s ninth-ranked scoring offense in Week 11?

Writer’s Pick: Washington

If Washington is laying 10 points or less here, you have to grab them. Yes, Utah has played some lights-out defense in some games and scored a great upset against USC, but Washington’s offense is too good for Utah to keep up with.

Something to consider is that the last two times Utah was getting at least four points (they’ll get more than that in this game; expect Utah to bet at +7 or more by game time), they’ve lost against the spread.

Penix and Washington’s offense is just too much for Utah here, and they’re worth taking, considering the Utes don’t have a sturdy QB at the time of this writing. Ride Washington, as they’ll need a big performance here to sway the voters to put them in the final four.
