Matt Abbott

Matt Abbott is a poet, educator and activist from Wakefield. His debut poetry collection Two Little Ducks features the sequence of poems from his one-man stage show of the same name, which earned 5* and 4* reviews during a full Edinburgh Fringe run in 2017 and on a 22-date UK theatre tour in 2018.

His debut kids' poetry collection A Hurricane in my Head was published by Bloomsbury in 2019. It was a National Poetry Day selected title, which led to a live appearance on Blue Peter.

Matt founded Nymphs & Thugs - the UK's leading spoken word record label - in 2015, and fronts alternative indie act Skint & Demoralised. He's a lifelong die-hard Leeds United fan and has also followed Blyth Spartans since 2012. He was commissioned by Leeds United to write a poem for their centenary kit launch in 2019. He's starred in several national TV ads for Nationwide Building Society, and other commissions include Cancer Research UK and Jeremy Corbyn. He's an ambassador for Eureka! The National Children's Museum.
