Having spent several years without a trophy, Alex Ferguson finally got off the mark in the 1990 FA Cup with a win over Crystal Palace. The proceeding two years saw Manchester United developing into all-conquering outfit they eventually became. Players such as Mark Hughes, Brian McClair, Bryan Robson and Paul Ince won the 1991 European Cup Winners Cup against Barcelona and narrowly missed out on the 1992 Championship to Leeds United.

This ‘vibrant’ Adidas number, inspired by other jazzy, eye-boggling shirts like the great Dutch jersey of 1988, was worn in a classic League Cup tie at Highbury when a Lee Sharpe-inspired United thrashed the Gunners 6-2 in 1990-91.
